Jason Beever, fourth generation owner of the CE Carll Insurance Agency, whose family has been doing business in Gorham since 1866, was named Business Person of the Year at The Gorham Business & Civic Exchange 13th Annual Award presentation held at Crockett Interiors May 8.
Before announcing the winner, GB&CEx new President, Donna Reinheimer, told the crowd of about fifty this was the first time a recipient was unable to attend. She said the award would be presented again in person at GB&CEx’s June 12 Social at Ameriprise Financial Services. Touching on the criteria and reasons for his selection, some of Jason’s efforts and contributions to Gorham both personally and professionally were recognized as follows:
“Nominees must be involved in the community:
As an active member of the Westbrook/Gorham Rotary, volunteer circulation distributor and writer for the Gorham Times, Jason makes generous financial contributions to youth organizations, helping with outdoor Boy Scout activities and being an avid blood donor, makes arrangements for Gorham Marketplace’s blood drive each year.
“Nominees must also promote business in our community:
A founding member of the Gorham Business & Civic Exchange, Jason’s served as a Board member, treasurer, secretary, vice president and president. Under his ownership C.E.Carll has grown and expanded, in 2004 becoming a member of The Chalmers Group and then adding a Standish office two years ago. As a speaker and leader Jason has represented and advocated for Gorham businesses always delivering a quality and professional presentation.
“…must be a mentor and leader in the community:
As a mentor, Jason’s willing to listen, share his knowledge, and offer advice to others just starting out in business and serves on the interview panel for Gorham High School freshman.
“… creative and imaginative in business:
Jason’s idea of starting GB&CEx’s Annual Golf Scramble, which he chaired for six years, provides two Scholarships for GHS graduating seniors.
In keeping with tradition, last year’s winner Angelo Sotiropolous, owner of GHOP, was there to pass the traveling wall plaque on to Jason.
